On Thursday, Opposition leaders met in Parliament over the demonetisation issue.

As the winter session of Parliament nears its end, Opposition leaders on Thursday to discuss the demonetisation issue. TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay also gave an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha on the issue. The winter session has witnessed excessive sloganeering by the opposition on demonetisation and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’ silence on the issue in Lok Sabha.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said, “Apne netaon ki baatein, janata ki kathinayi seriously nahi lete woh. (The government doesn’t take the word of public or it’s ministers seriously).” Kharge was speaking in reference to the government’s reaction on Rahul Gandhi’s allegations against PM Modi. He further claimed that the government was making such comments since they were scared of Rahul. “Rahul Gandhi ji ke bare mein aisi baatein karte hain, matlab unse wo ghabraaye hue hain,” he said.

On Wednesday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar had said that Rahul’s allegations were “baseless.”

“If he had any information, he would have said it by now. It is a baseless allegation. He is saying this out of frustration. Today they are saying they are not being allowed to speak. It is wrong because everyday Congress members are coming to the well of the House. Now they are making trying to spread rumour and baseless allegations.”

Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu also hit back at the Congress vice-president’s allegations saying, “Who has stopped them in all these days. First let the allegations come what is the point talking meaningless like that.”
